Energy Storage: Reliable Power for Field Construction Camps

Dec 11,2025

In remote mountainous areas and field construction sites far from the power grid, how can the power needs of construction camps be effectively guaranteed? Traditionally, diesel generators provide electricity, but the problems of fluctuating oil prices, high transportation costs, significant noise pollution, and frequent start-stop cycles have long plagued users.

PowerLink‘s PES and BES series hybrid energy systems are designed specifically to solve these problems, offering a solution centered on “oil-solar-storage complementarity.” This solution combines photovoltaic power generation, battery energy storage, and diesel generators, aiming to provide a reliable energy supply that is both economical and environmentally friendly for field construction camps.

    • Solution Logic

Based on the concept of “PV as the main source, energy storage for peak shaving, and diesel for emergency use,” the system achieves energy self-sufficiency using solar roofs, indoor inverters, and battery cabinets. By optimizing energy efficiency, it achieves efficient energy collection, storage, and distribution according to camp load and natural conditions, ensuring “uninterrupted, low-cost, and pollution-free” power supply, while using diesel generators as an emergency backup power source.

Customized solutions, ranging from small to large, are provided for camps of different sizes to meet diverse electricity needs.

  • What are the main core configurations?

The core of the hybrid energy system consists of high-efficiency photovoltaic modules, lithium iron phosphate energy storage batteries, an EMS intelligent control system, a bidirectional inverter, and a diesel generator (for emergency backup). The EMS system achieves dynamic balance between photovoltaic, energy storage, and load, supports automatic switching of “photovoltaic-energy storage priority” to ensure stable power supply, and the diesel generator serves as an emergency backup energy source.

Customized according to camp size:

  • Small campsite (10-30 people): Recommended configuration: 5-10kW PV + 10-20kWh energy storage. Core product selection: BES20S energy storage product + optional small diesel generator to meet basic power needs and reduce diesel reliance;
  • Medium campsite (30-100 people): Recommended configuration: 20-50kW PV + 50-100kWh energy storage. Core product selection: PES100 energy storage system + 50kW backup diesel generator to support small construction equipment and living loads, meeting the campsite’s power needs;
  • Large campsite: Based on the campsite’s energy needs, configure 100kW or more PV + 200kWh or more energy storage, such as PowerLik’s PES300 or higher energy storage battery equipment, paired with a diesel generator, to meet the needs of heavy equipment. PV penetration exceeds 70%.

Intelligent Operation Modes:

  1. Daytime: Photovoltaic modules prioritize power supply to meet the camp’s real-time load; excess electricity is stored in the energy storage system.
  2. Nighttime/Rainy Days: The energy storage system discharges to supply power; when the power level falls below the 20% threshold, the diesel generator automatically starts to supplement power.
  3. Extreme Conditions: The energy storage system instantaneously supports the load, avoiding voltage fluctuations; the diesel generator starts in coordination to ensure continuous operation of core equipment.

Case

A large field construction camp (80 people, including heavy construction equipment) achieved significant benefits after connecting to a PowerLink 150kW photovoltaic + 200kWh energy storage system:

  • Diesel consumption: Reduced from 800 liters per day to 150 liters, saving 120,000 yuan in fuel costs per month and over 1.4 million yuan per year;
  • Return on investment: The entire equipment investment can be recovered in 2.5 years, with energy cost savings exceeding 12 million yuan over its entire lifecycle (10 years);
  • Power supply reliability: Increased from 95% to 99.9% compared to traditional diesel generators, completely solving the problem of power outages during construction;
  • Environmental benefits: Reduced carbon dioxide emissions by 180 tons annually (150kW photovoltaic), achieving one-time environmental acceptance and avoiding environmental penalties;
  • Operation and maintenance costs: The remote monitoring system enables fault early warning and data visualization management, reducing manual inspection frequency by 70% and operation and maintenance costs by 50%.
