What’s the Fuss over Diesel Generator Emission Standards?
Throughout the past 30 years, growing concerns for the environment and the impact of diesel engine emissions have led to regulations and standards being developed aimed at reducing emissions, with each region developing their own emission regulation standards. Both the USA and the UK/EU have operational emissions standards for diesel engines. Within the USA, the standards are categorised into Tiers, such as Tier 4 Final and Tier 3, whereas in the UK/EU they are categorised into Stages, an example of this is the Stage V generators being released to the European market.
What’s in non-regulated diesel engine emissions?
The emissions of a non-regulated diesel engine contain by-products from combustion, and often contain the following:
Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) – Occurs naturally because of bacterial processes, biological growth, and the burning of fossil fuels, and is recognised as a colourless non-toxic gas (referred to as laughing gas).
Hydrocarbons (HC) – Organic chemical compounds that consist entirely of carbon and hydrogen. They can range from simple molecules such as methane to polymers such as polystyrene.
Carbon Monoxide (CO) – Colourless, odourless, toxic gas which is a byproduct from incomplete burning of fossil fuels.
Particulate Matter (PM) – The sum of all solid and liquid particles suspended in the air.
Manufacturing diesel generators that meet emissions standards
As a manufacturer and using our extensive understanding of diesel engines, we have developed low-emission diesel generators which can meet EU Stage V, Tier 4 Final and Tier 3 regulations, which are available to order from our offices worldwide.
PowerLink’s EU Stage V Generators
PowerLink EU Stage V generators are built to adhere to the new emissions regulations which apply to rental diesel generators in the EU and the United Kingdom.
Built by our team and utilising engines from John Deere, Kubota, Volvo, and Scania, which are coupled with Leroy Somer alternators, provides a KVA range of 10KVA – 737KVA, and these units reduce emissions to the lowest level possible while still using a diesel engine and are available for our team now.
